Got Poker?

By Itay Paz

The game of poker is played all over the world, and it can be found in many places. There are games in basements, garages, parties, casinos, and most recently, it has made a huge splash on the Internet. Though it has only been online for about ten years, the vast majority of those who play do so with their computer. This game, no matter where it is played, is often much loved by the players, and is considered to be a game of luck and skill combined. Though not all poker is played for money, most people love to play for some sort of monetary prize.

There are many styles of Poker, and they are each played in a different way. The basics are the same, but each style has its own set of sub-rules. There are times when each player’s hand is completely concealed, and other types have partially concealed hands. Though knowing the rules of play and wager are important during any game, learning a poker face, how to calculate odds, and table etiquette are just as important to the game. Most poker is played with chips that signify a certain amount of money. These chips are wagered during the game, and the player with the best poker hand is the one who walks away with the entire pot. Sometimes these chips might be worth a cent or a dollar, and other times they are worth five, ten, or one hundred or more dollars.

Poker can be played at one table, or it can be played in tournament form. This can be done at a casino, or can be done online. These are even fun for social events or charity events, as long as a license is purchased (when required). Though online poker is probably one of the most popular ways to play this game today, there are some conflicting laws about who can play over the Internet, and also, who can start an Internet casino or poker web site. These laws don’t seem to be stopping many though, as poker in any form is more popular than it has ever been.
